Honest Review: Girl’s Getaway Bliss at the Mirbeau Inn & Spa in Rhinebeck, NY
There are getaways that feel like a pause button, and then there are getaways that feel like hitting a reset button. My weekend at the Mirbeau Inn & Spa in Rhinebeck, New York firmly belongs in the second category.
As the travel consultant of the group, I was tasked with finding the perfect relaxing spa retreat for my friends 40th birthday celebration. It didn’t take much digging before I landed on Mirbeau Rhinebeck, which seemed to check every box:
- A five-star stay in the tri-state area – Check
- A luxurious spa – Check
- A location just steps from an adorable town filled with shops and restaurants – Check
When I saw that their three-room suite was available, I jumped on the booking. Not only would it comfortably fit our group and serve as the perfect base for a celebratory weekend, but the on-site spa sealed the deal.
Still, you never truly know how a resort will pan out—especially when you’re relying on glossy curated photos and online reviews that tend to swing from gushing to scathing. For my best friend’s milestone birthday, only the best would do, and I’ll admit I was a nervous wreck about the planning (a special shoutout to my friends Jenny and Raq for stepping in to help with the final details—total rockstars!).
By the time we left the resort after 3 days of pampering and relaxation, my friends were all glowing, and I for one was head over heels for both the property and the town of Rhinebeck. I’d go back in a heartbeat—or perhaps check out Mirbeau’s brand-new location set to open in Beacon, NY in 2026. But, I’m getting ahead of myself. Let’s dive into a full and honest review of the property and its surroundings, so that if you’re considering your own relaxing weekend at Mirbeau, you won’t have to think twice.

First Impressions of Mirbeau Inn & Spa

Getting to Rhinebeck
First of all, Rhinebeck, NY is not only adorable, but also a cinch to get to. Six of us girls escaped to this charming Hudson Valley town from all over the country—one from NYC, another from New Jersey, one from Pennsylvania, two from Florida, and one from Colorado. Flying into any of New York City’s airports, a roughly two-hour Amtrak ride will bring you within a quick 4–5-minute drive of both the resort and town. There’s also a nearby international airport (SWF) less than an hour’s drive from Rhinebeck. Those who drove from NJ and PA spent between two and three hours in the car. By the time we gathered together, everyone agreed: no matter the mode of transportation, the trip was well worth the effort.
Review of the Mirbeau Inn & Spa
Pulling into Mirbeau feels like stepping back in time—to a simpler, slower, yet infinitely more sophisticated era. The property seamlessly blends French countryside elegance with warm Hudson Valley charm. From the landscaped gardens and cobbled drive to the inviting common areas adorned with fireplaces and plush seating, every detail seemed designed to encourage you to linger.
The front desk staff was accommodating and warm, greeting our little party with smiles and celebratory champagne. Even the room keys were charming: bamboo cards etched with the resort’s emblem, and they happily offered one to each of us. They directed us to our suite on the second floor and offered to help with our bags via the elevator, though we couldn’t resist taking the grand spiral staircase, complete with a sparkling crystal chandelier, which led almost directly to the door of our suite.

The Suite Life
Our suite was sprawling, with two bedrooms (a double queen and a king) connected by a spacious living area with a pull-out sofa (which we didn’t use) and a small kitchenette with a sink and mini fridge. Each of the three rooms had its own working fireplace and sitting area, as well as a full bathroom outfitted with a spacious shower and a claw-foot soaking tub (such a nice touch). The spa-quality bath products were far from the generic hotel fare; as a curly-haired girl who usually relies on specialized products, I was pleasantly surprised to find myself happily using what they provided.
Each bedroom felt private and comfortable, with soft beds, luxe linens, and plush spa robes pressed and hanging in the closets. On the beds, we found lavender spray for our pillows and two chocolates tucked neatly into sleek black boxes—a detail that set the tone for the pampering weekend ahead.

In the living area, the girls wasted no time setting up a charcuterie spread along with champagne and wine. The Mirbeau staff added to the celebration by sending up a platter of bite-sized pastries from their bakery, with a birthday message written in chocolate. (This is the magic of working with a travel advisor on these types of bookings—you get special touches and perks that make a stay feel truly one-of-a-kind.)

It was, in a word—perfect. The girls gushed over the suite and the resort itself, and there wasn’t a single need the staff weren’t ready to meet. And we hadn’t even made it to the spa yet.
The Spa Experience at Mirbeau

Mirbeau’s spa is the centerpiece of the property, and for good reason—it’s stunning. Picture serene treatment rooms, a Himalayan salt sauna (which I happily used multiple times a day), eucalyptus-infused steam rooms, and a warm outdoor whirlpool framed by soft lighting and fountains. There’s even a dedicated poolside bar serving up drinks and light bites—because what’s more indulgent than sipping a cocktail in a robe?

The only thing that felt slightly lacking was the seating around the outdoor pool area. There were a few private or reserved cabanas, but beyond that, the general seating wasn’t especially comfortable, and loungers were limited. To be fair, the space is on the smaller side, and I think they did the best they could with the footprint available. Still, a few more unreserved loungers would have made the area perfect. That small hiccup aside, I could have happily spent hours drifting from one serene corner to another (and honestly, that’s pretty much what I did).
Spa Treatments
But of course, this was our Sip and Spa weekend, so treatments were very much on the agenda. I chose the French Sea Detox Scrub, a rejuvenating ritual that began with a salt exfoliation, followed by a warm seaweed and clay wrap, and finished with a massage using detoxifying oils. My skin was left impossibly smooth and my mind deliciously calm. I believe my therapist’s name was Cory (I swore I’d write it down, but I was so blissed out afterward that it completely slipped my mind), and she was fantastic. She even surprised me with a facial massage using tea tree oil that left my senses absolutely swimming.
Each of the girls booked their own treatments, everything from massages, facials, and body wraps, and we all emerged looking and feeling a little more radiant and blissed out than when we’d walked in.

The pre-treatment relaxation room was one of my favorite spaces (I spent a fair amount of time here during my stay, as did a few of the other ladies), softly lit with a crackling fireplace, cozy lounge chairs, herbal tea, and the soothing sound of trickling water accompanied by soft spa music that seemed to slow the pace of time. It was the ultimate cocoon of relaxation.
I’m relaxed all over again just writing the words.
Dining at Mirbeau’s Willow Restaurant

For lunch on our first day, we stayed on property and dined at Willow, Mirbeau’s elegant yet relaxed restaurant. We chose the terrace, which overlooked a lush, jungle-like backdrop where a small trio of deer quietly foraged as we browsed the menu. The cocktails set the tone right away, creative, refreshing, and just a little indulgent. I tried the Mirbeau Lavender, a gin and prosecco mix that was as light and floral as it was delicious.
We kicked things off with a baked brie and a raw oyster platter for the table. The brie arrived warm and velvety, paired with a tangy raspberry preserve, fresh berries and a perfectly crisp baguette. The oysters, plump and briny East Coasters, were served on ice and came with just the right accompaniments. Both appetizers disappeared quickly, leaving us eager for what was to come.

For my entrée, I went with the Moules Frites, a generous bowl of mussels steeped in a fragrant white wine and butter sauce, served with another fresh baguette. I couldn’t resist using every last bite of bread to soak up the decadent broth. Around the table, dishes like the Sesame Noodle Bowl and the Caesar salad earned just as much praise. The only mild disappointment was the spinach quiche that came with the Lunch Trio. A couple of the girls felt it was a bit too spinach-forward and light on the egg. I took a bite and understood their point, though as a spinach fan, I still thought it was tasty.
All together the meal felt special without being fussy, and just one more thing to love about the resort.
Exploring the Town of Rhinebeck, NY

Beyond food and drink, Rhinebeck is simply a delightful place to wander. The walkable downtown is lined with boutiques, antique stores, art galleries, and independent bookshops. It has just the right mix of charm and sophistication—perfect for a girls’ weekend or a romantic escape.
If you turn left out of the resort, instead of right towards town, there is a lovely public park just up the hill. I am a runner, and the nature trail here was a delight to traverse on a cool summer morning. There were also tennis courts and other sporting facilities.
In warmer months, you’ll find farmers’ markets brimming with local produce and flowers, as well as seasonal events that draw visitors from across the Hudson Valley. And if you’re visiting in the fall, Rhinebeck’s foliage is worth the trip alone. Having lived in the tropics for many years now I would give my left leg to visit again in the fall.
Eating Our Way Through Rhinebeck

Rhinebeck’s dining scene punches far above its weight for a town its size. Over the weekend, we explored a range of local favorites:
- Pretty to Think So – Dinner here was a cozy, intimate affair. The menu was small but thoughtful, and the cocktails were lovely. Perfect for a lingering meal with friends. We definitely surprised our server a little when we ordered the caviar for dessert, but it was honestly a really nice way to end the meal. (~10 min walk from Mirbeau)
- The Little Goat – Rustic and inviting, with an “old world” vibe. The service was excellent, and the fresh pasta and elevated comfort food really hit the spot after a day of exploring. (~5 min walk from Mirbeau)
- Rhinebeck Bagel Company – A bustling little spot where the bagels are so New York (and by that, I mean excellent) and the coffee is strong enough to kickstart the day. A guy I can only assume is the owner was taking the orders and was also totally New York, a charmer to the customer and openly abrasive and demanding to his staff. As a prior New Yorker, I found it endearing, though his staff may not have felt the same. (~2 min walk from Mirbeau)
- Bread Alone – A Hudson Valley staple with excellent pastries, sandwiches, and fresh-baked bread to take home. I ordered the Ricotta Toast which was delicious. (~10 min walk from Mirbeau)
- Aba’s Falafel – This lunch stop was a standout—fresh, flavorful, and packed with Middle Eastern spices that made me wish for a second stomach since I was still a bit full from breakfast. (~10 mins walk from Mirbeau)
- Café Con Leche – I lost count of how many times we visited, but I do know this: their café con leche is worth a pilgrimage all on its own. Creamy, strong, and just sweet enough, with a hint of cinnamon—it’s the kind of coffee drink you dream about long after the last sip. (~5 min walk from Mirbeau)
We also popped into Samuel’s Sweet Shop, a Rhinebeck institution partly owned by actors Paul Rudd and Jeffrey Dean Morgan, and couldn’t resist a visit to the town’s other artisan chocolate shop, Krause’s Chocolates, which smelled as good as the treats it served. An olive oil and vinegar tasting at Oliva! (just next door from Krause’s) rounded out our culinary wanderings. What was nice is that every single one of these places were a short walk from Mirbeau.
Upstate New York Winery Tour

On one sunny afternoon, we drove about 30 minutes to Millbrook Winery. The property itself was lovely—rolling hills, a welcoming tasting room, and a balcony patio perfect for sipping. That said, their wine wasn’t my personal favorite. Wine is subjective, though, and others in our group enjoyed it.
If Millbrook isn’t your style, there are several other wineries and vineyards within a short drive of Rhinebeck worth exploring:
- Clinton Vineyards – Known for sparkling wines and dessert wines, this picturesque spot offers a romantic, intimate tasting experience.
- Whitecliff Vineyard & Winery – A family-run winery with stunning views of the Shawangunk Mountains and a wide range of varietals.
- Mill House Brewing Company – Technically not a winery, but if you love craft beer, this Poughkeepsie brewpub is an excellent detour.
Final Thoughts on Mirbeau Inn & Spa

I can honestly say I couldn’t have been happier with the Mirbeau Inn & Spa. From the service to the spa, from the food to the sheer beauty of the property, it was everything I’d hoped for and more. In fact, I don’t have a single complaint—and if you’ve ever traveled with six women in one suite, you’ll know just how rare that is!
Mirbeau is the kind of place that makes you slow down, breathe deeper, and savor the moment. Whether you’re celebrating a milestone birthday, planning a romantic escape, or simply craving a weekend to recharge, this is a destination that delivers.

When it came time to pack up, none of us were ready to leave. The birthday girl was glowing, and in truth, so were we—grateful that she had the special weekend she deserved, and equally thrilled to have shared it together. We drove away with the happy knowledge that Rhinebeck, with its perfect mix of small-town charm, world-class spa indulgence, and culinary delights, is only a road trip away. And with Mirbeau set to open its largest resort and spa in Beacon in 2026—just a bit closer to NYC—I have a feeling another girls’ weekend is already on the horizon. Perhaps Mirbeau will become part of our tradition.
