Day 1 – Arrival & Trulli Magic in Alberobello

- Drive to Alberobello (about 1–1.5 hours from either airport). Check into your trullo and drop your bags.
Afternoon – Guided Trulli Walk

- Your guide will walk you through Rione Monti and Aia Piccola, explain how trulli were built, and point out icons like Trullo Sovrano and the trullo-shaped church.
Evening – Apéritivo & Local Dinner
- Enjoy an apéritivo (spritz + small bites) in the old town.
- Dinner in a traditional trattoria – look for orecchiette with cime di rapa (turnip tops) or a simple grilled fish depending on the season.
- Stroll back to your trullo under fairy-light strings and sleep in your stone cocoon.

Morning – Locorotondo & Martina Franca
- Short drive (15–25 minutes) to Locorotondo, a circular hill town with white lanes and balconies spilling flowers.

How to Pack for Puglia

Puglia is sunny, stylish, and a little rustic around the edges. Here’s what actually earns its place in your suitcase:
Clothing
- Light, breathable layers: Linen or cotton dresses, shorts, and tops for hot days.
- One modest outfit for churches: covered shoulders and knees (midi dress + light scarf works).
- Light sweater or shawl for breezy evenings in shoulder seasons.
- Comfortable walking shoes: cobblestone-friendly sneakers or sandals.
- Water shoes or sturdy sandals for rocky beaches and pebbly coves like Polignano’s Lama Monachile.
- Swimwear: at least two suits so one can dry while you wear the other.
- Sun hat & sunglasses – the light is bright and the sun is strong.
Practical Extras
- Daypack or chic crossbody bag for market runs and day trips.
- Quick-dry travel towel (especially handy for impromptu swims or boat tours).
- Reusable water bottle – tap water is generally safe and it’s hot in summer.
- Light rain jacket if visiting in spring or fall. Or a sturdy umbrella.
Toiletries & Health
- High-SPF reef-safe sunscreen (you’ll be in and out of the water often).
- After-sun lotion or aloe gel.
- Basic meds: pain reliever, motion sickness tablets (for boat tours), antihistamine, and anything personal.
- Bug spray, especially if you’re staying in the countryside around olive groves. This is my go-to all-natural brand.
Tech & Documents
- Universal adapter & voltage converter if needed (Italy uses 220V, Type C/F plugs).
- Offline maps downloaded for Puglia – some rural areas have spotty reception. Check out my article on the Best Travel Apps for my navigation picks.
- Printed or digital copies of all bookings (hotels, rental car, vouchers).
